THE FRIENDS OF HENSHAW SCHOOL

Friends of Henshaw School was set up in June 2001. The aim of the Friends is to give support where needed, particularly in the area of fund-raising.

The Friends provide refreshments at school functions, organise events throughout the year and, in particular, help with the Spring Fair. Funds raised from these events go towards providing additional activities and equipment for the children at the school.

Membership of the friends is automatic to all parents of children at Henshaw School and anyone else who is interested in the well-being of the school.

COMMUNITY LINKS

At Henshaw CE First School we have good links with the local community. In school the children are visited by the local fire brigade, Community Police and School Nurse regularly.

We have very close links with our Parish Church, All Hallows and a Eucharist service is held for the children and their families each term. Members of our local and church community come into school to help on a regular basis – gardening club, Recorder club, and Hymn practice.

We regularly contribute to local newspaper. We participate in local events such as the Annual Conker Championship, Bardon Mill Carnival, Roman Wall Show and our own Spring Fayre is an annual community event. Community groups regularly hire our school facilities for community events.

SPECIAL EVENTS IN SCHOOL

There are many opportunities when you will be invited to attend school for specific occasions, including Harvest Festival, Book Fairs, Christmas Concerts, Easter Service, Sports Day and other events.  We also have an “Annual Fayre” which is usually held in May to raise money for our school fund.  Parental involvement with this event is greatly appreciated as our school fund is used to provide many extra items for our children.

FRIENDS HELPING IN SCHOOL

Many friends, parents and grandparents like to be involved in various school activities.  These may include helping with art or craft activities, organising the school library, sharing books or making classroom support materials.

We appreciate any time and skills you are able to offer.  Please contact the Head Teacher if you would like to help, and we will make the necessary arrangements. Any helpers within school will be police checked via the Criminal Records Bureau.
